The double end bag, (also known as the floor-to-ceiling bag, or "crazy bag" or "crazy balloon"), is a small bag filled with air hanging at both ends from the ceiling and ground by an end cord. The best double end bag comes in many sizes, shapes, and endity to offer you different types or different levels of training for your typing technique.
You usually have the following types of bag training: The Big Knocking Bag - Excellent to develop your power and work out your fitness. The bag sways freely, allowing you to use your legs while you move with the bag. The big punching bag has its limits in the sense that it is too easy to hit and that it gives you nothing to make you react. This may be why beginners have so much more fun on the big punch bag, because it's easy to hit and you feel amazing. Speed pear - Excellent for developing your pace, timing, speed of your hand, and stamina. It's a great way to pack the muscles of your shoulders and arm muscles to kick a lot of shots without getting tired. The limits of the speed pear are that it becomes very predictable to hit after a while and it does not dare you to move and aim precisely your shots. You can basically use the same movement again and again to hit the bag.
The double end bag - It's something between the big punch bag and the speed pear depending on how you see it. It is similar to the big punching bag in the sense that you can hit it with a correct typing technique and also move around the bag. It is similar to the speed pear in the sense that you need rhythm and accuracy to hit it properly.
The benefits of training on the double end bag The double end bag is the perfect tool to develop your typing skills and boxing skills in general! Many experienced fighters love double end bag training to develop their high level boxing skills. Timing - the double end bag is not immobile like the big punching bag. It moves forward and backward quickly (more re-list to mimic the movement of an opponent's head) which makes it harder to hit. Not only must you hit the bag but you must also hit it at the right time for your shots to be effective. Precision - the double end bag is a smaller target that moves a lot, forcing you to use your eyes and be more precise. Rhythm - The double end bag moves constantly back and forth, which forces you to find a rhythm for your strikes instead of just throwing at random moments. Developing this rhythm for your body will make your fight more effective and save you more energy in the ring.
Reflexes - That's what I really love about the double end bag. It forces you to use your eyes and be 100% conscious of the double end bag. It develops the vivacity of your eyes and rapid reflexes unlike the big punching bag that allows you to hit even when you are lazy and you are mentally half awake. Good opponents move more like the double end bag rather than the big punch bag. Speed of the hands - the double end bag moves quickly, which requires you to throw fast shots all the time in order to touch it. This is an important training because many boxers get used to throwing slow shots on a big bag still and end up being too slow in a real fight to hit the opponent.
Endurance - The double end bag does not bounce your fists to help you bring them back to you like the big punching bag. Which means you have to use your muscles more to retract your arms, especially when you miss the target.
Power - The power of typing is not the same as the typing skill. Good technique and good conditioning can make you a more powerful batter, but you need the skill of striking (timing and precision) to really transfer the power to your opponent. This is the reason why many top fighters train with the double end bag. The big punching bag does not matter too much for the old boxers because their hands have been worn over the years. In any case, they rely more on their striking techniques than brute force.
